Studio AOAO
Information
Studio AOAO is an interdisciplinary studio that blends art and design, founded in Amsterdam in 2020 by Alicja Strzyżyńska and Onur Iseri. Their work merges sculpture with function, exploring the emotional and spatial impact of objects through material, form, and narrative
Alicja’s background in sculpture was influenced by her grandfather, an artist and sculptor. She holds a master’s degree in design from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and a bachelor’s in interior architecture, having worked in architectural studios in Tokyo and Amsterdam. Onur’s creative journey began through self-taught digital design before pursuing business studies in Japan. His experiences in design, marketing, and education in Tokyo shaped his approach, blending structured thinking with artistic exploration.
Their practice is shaped by a deep interest in psychology and philosophy, drawing inspiration from Bergson’s theories, Japanese aesthetics, and concepts like Ikigai and Kado. Working primarily with ceramics and gypsum, they create sculptural compositions that explore the balance between mass and absence, fluidity and structure. Their forms shift in perception, responding to light and space in an immersive way.
Since debuting their first collection at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery during Milan Design Week 2021, Studio AOAO has collaborated with esteemed galleries, including Galerie Philia, STAHL + BAND, and FIN Gallery. Their work is defined by an instinctive yet precise sensibility, prioritizing craftsmanship, sustainability, and the enduring connection between objects and their users.
