Finnish-born designer Jonas Lutz creates objects characterized by bold simplicity, blending minimalism with warmth and playfulness. His work is driven by an ongoing exploration of new forms and ideas, underpinned by a profound understanding of materials and a desire to enhance their inherent qualities. Drawing inspiration from Nordic furniture traditions and the vibrant design culture of the Netherlands, Lutz approaches design with the sensitivity of a sculptor. Often setting his own briefs, he begins with material exploration, frequently finding inspiration in everyday objects around him.
For five years, Lutz designed and crafted wooden furniture for the fashion industry using entire logs of fresh elm wood. This process led him to creatively repurpose offcuts and remnants, shaping them with a chainsaw and sander into new forms, preserving the spontaneity and playfulness that are hallmarks of his work.
Now based in Rotterdam, Lutz collaborates with manufacturers such as E15, Form & Refine, La Chance, and fashion label Isabel Marant. He studied at Carl Malmsten Furniture School in Stockholm and holds a bachelor’s degree in design from the Design Academy Eindhoven.
