Basse Stittgen is an Amsterdam-based designer whose work lies at the intersection of design, art, and material research. His practice explores the hidden narratives of materials, questioning how they are created and transformed. Through experimental processes and self-developed tools, Stittgen makes invisible ecologies tangible, creating materials and objects that engage with contemporary social and environmental challenges.
Since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2017, his work has been showcased at renowned institutions including the V&A Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, MMCA Korea, and the 13th Shanghai Biennale of Architecture. His pieces are part of prominent collections such as NGV Melbourne, MAK Vienna, the Rijksmuseum Twenthe, and the Wellcome Collection.
Next to his studio practice Stittgen also leads the Moving Matter Laboratory, a mobile bio-design workshop focused on material research. Designed as a flexible and experimental space, the lab fosters hands-on explorations of natural processes and bio-based materials.
